THE STEP BY STEP TO PAINT ON FABRIC
- Prewash the fabric
This is a mandatory and important step, especially for clothing, by pre-washing we will be able to remove some finishes from the fabrics that can make it difficult for the paint to penetrate, preventing the paint from lifting or cracking and leaving holes.
- Prepare the workspace and the garment that you will paint
Ideally, work on a completely flat surface covered by plastic to avoid staining it.
Then, you have to stretch the fabric so that there are no wrinkles left and that it can remain intact until it dries, you can use tweezers to hold it.
If we are painting pieces such as T-shirts, it is essential to put a thick paper or cardboard inside the shirt to avoid stains on the back.
- Draw your design on the fabric
With a pencil or marker you can draw your idea before starting to paint.
- Paint
Once you have all the lines drawn, start painting. Load the paint on the brush and start with the contours and then move on to the interior parts. With short strokes to fill you will achieve a better finish.
If the fabric is dark, we suggest you first put a layer of white paint on the drawing so that when you put the colors it stands out more and does not look opaque due to the darkness of the fabric.
- Time to wait
Possibly the most boring part is waiting, but it is very important if we paint on canvas. We have to let it rest on a flat surface for at least 24 hours.
Also between each layer of paint you must use a heat gun, passing it a little over the image helps to speed up the drying process a bit to be able to paint the second layer.
- Use sealant.
There are matte, glossy sealants, etc.
This will help what has been painted last much longer after washing.
This step is when the paint is already dry
- Wash the fabric
We suggest you do not wash the fabric for at least 5 days afterwards. Ideal to wash it by hand the first few times with mild detergent, and then wash it inside out to avoid scratching.
